On 25th April, 1915,  after a long spell in the front line at Ypres, the 1st Dorset battalion of 15 Brigade, 5th Division moved to billets at Kruisstraat. But their rest here was short lived and during 27th and 28th April they marched to Zillebeke where they were employed digging new trenches. On 29th April they moved once again, this time to support positions at Hill 60, in the southern part of the salient, where there had been fierce fighting since the middle of the month as both sides battled for control of this important vantage point and where there was still heavy shelling by both sides. George Woolley was killed here on 30th April, most likely as a result of this shell fire.
